So after a long and arduous day at the office. I boarded an Etihad flight bound for muscat on my way to an amazing holiday. Fast forward 16 hours and I’m cruising at medium altitude along the shoreline of Oman. It’s hard to fathom looking down at a desert completely covered by rocky crags and outcrops nestled cozily along a turquoise rolling sea. But herein lies the beauty of Muscat and Oman.
Touching down our visas were organised quickly and without complication. Insert fluid transition through bag collection and we are boarding our coach transfer through the mountains bound for sifawy boutique hotel. Our guide gave us a rundown of the culture and country and offered us all some dates, which are a popular export of Oman. The drive was about 90 minutes but every second was absolutely breathtaking. Wether it was driving through small villages where goats scattered from the passing cars. Or a close up look at where mountains meets ocean and the beautiful contrast it gives. Or finally the rising peaks and different types of rocks and vegetation that line the horizon and jutt out with silhouettes that are an organic work of art.
As we entered the lobby of the property we were hit by the gorgeous smell of frankincense permeating the room. Wet towels and pomegranate juice also greeted us and fit in with the ambience like silk. We are definitely in Oman and everything so far epitomizes the culture and perception of what the Middle East is.
Rooms are cosy and clean and spacious. Staff service is second to none. Cuisine will have your mouth watering for hours afterwards. Finally, nothing will trump the general energy and radiance this destination exudes. Most definitely a hidden gem in the Arabic region, and somewhere where people need to be re-educated. Loving this place silly and it’s only day one!
Twas the night before the night before christmas...
So two weeks after original blog post I am now doing another. This is as consistent and organised as the room cleaning I stil haven’t done from said post. Hurrah!
So at the moment I’m pumping Alicia Keys (bless her soul) and sipping on a can of refined carbohydrates and not feeling the least bit guilty… that’s right mountain dew, you are no longer the enemy.
Two things I would like to mention this evening…
1. Buskers in the CBD of Sydney - spectacular. I passed a guy on the sax, doing a rather upbeat blues version of oh come all ye faithful. My only regret is I didn’t take a pic of him to post… he was in his element. I did however toss a dollar into his tinsel consumed case and wished him a joyous christmas. Second busker was outside St. James station, equipped with a plethora of beer bottles filled with water at different levels and a large array of wooden spoons, and by golly did he know how to use those apparatus to create an aural masterpiece (eargasm if you will). The most interesting thing is he was corporately dressed, with his Mark Jacobs bag sitting next to him and his Emporio Armani shoes on, and still humble enough to sit there and share with strangers. Much kudos to this gentlemen.
2. The weather. It epitomises the word shit.
I cut this one a lot shorter then what I had desired… I’ve really overexterted myself this week and should be preparing for my 7am train trip tomorrow instead of being nocturnal.
So i’ve decided to jump on the proverbial cyber bandwagon of blogging (possibly be vlogging too, if my stone age web cam permits such actions) after years of refusing too “waste my time”. The main problem about this is, is I have no idea what to write about, i’m lacking any kind of inspiration and possibly any artistic integrity, so currently i’m just converting my word vomit through my fingers and typing my thoughts. Come to think of it though, isn’t that the whole idea of blogging?
Currently it’s yet another rainy miserable December summer day and i’m procrastinating (and substituting) the cleaning of my room with cleaning up my iPhone/Facebook and all their syncs. I’m attempting to figure out a way to change the URL of my YouTube account to remain consistant with all my other online accounts, but alas the only way I can do that is to create a new email account - this could be a good thing though as my current one is slightly ghetto and 14-year-old fabulous. This also means though, that I have to divert all of my mail to the new address and resync all my iPhone business over, it all seems too much. If only I had the foresight 6 years ago to keep everything on the same page. Sigh.
I hear the cries of the masses shrieking “Garrett… What is this blog going to be about?” To which I reply NFI (no fucking idea for those not acronym savvy). Hopefully, this will be a stupendous creative outlet which kick starts and reignites the right hemisphere of my brain. Once I develop a knowledge for using Tumblr, i’m sure there will be YouTube links and various nic nacs of visual pleasure.
Anyway, time to get started on the organising of the online and the room, when the irony of it all is i’ve moved backwards in that goal by adding another internet hobby on my plethora of things I already use.
